Earn a Bachelor of Professional Studies (B.P.S.) Degree

Higher Education Articles May 15, 2014

The Bachelor of Professional Studies (B.P.S.) program is for adults who have earned college credits but never finished college. Those who have graduated from an associate’s degree program and desire to put their college credits toward a bachelor’s degree program can accomplish that with this program. These programs offer a diverse curriculum focused on practical and technical training along with a flexible schedule.

Bachelor of Professional Studies (B.P.S.) Degree Programs

Students seeking enrollment in the Bachelor of Professional Studies (B.P.S.) degree-completion program can pursue it in numerous disciplines, including computer information systems, business administration, culinary arts, and accounting.

Adults enrolling in a degree-completion program are allowed to transfer college credits completed by them toward obtaining their bachelor’s degree. In addition to an associate’s degree in a professional or technical field, a minimum number of transferable credits are often required by schools. Some schools offer Bachelor of Professional Studies (B.P.S.) programs in online, evening, and weekend formats for interested students.

Coursework

Graduates of a bachelor’s degree in professional studies can prepare for career advancement in various fields, including technology, nonprofit, and government. The workplace skills of enrolled students are improved through coursework devised to ensure such improvement. While coursework can vary by area of concentration, core coursework usually includes humanities, social sciences, English, science, and history.

Admissions Prerequisites

A minimum number of college credits are usually required to be completed by incoming students to the Bachelor of Professional Studies (B.P.S.) program; they are also required to possess a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0. If the incoming student has not completed the requisite number of college credits, he or she may be required to submit high school transcripts. Some schools only admit associate’s degree graduates if they have earned it at a community college, with which they have an affiliation.

Job Outlook

Memphis, Syracuse, and New York are the most popular U.S. cities chosen by graduates of a Bachelor of Professional Studies (B.P.S.) degree program. Graduates can usually seek jobs in the construction, health, and food industries.
Those who successfully complete the program can seek occupations in positions such as:

•Food and beverage director
•Sous chef
•Kitchen manager
•Health information management director
