Schools Offering Finance Programs

Coursework in a master’s degree program in finance may be a combination of economics, business, mathematical practices and theories, and statistics. Top-rated programs are available at both Princeton University, and the University of California – Berkeley (commonly referred to as Berkeley), which are on either coast of the United States. Publications such as Advanced Trading and U.S. News & World Report accord high rankings to these schools.

Princeton University in Princeton, NJ

The U.S. News & World Report featured Princeton University at the top of its 2014 list of the best national universities in the United States. A Master of Finance (M.Fin.) degree is available at the university through a multidisciplinary research center. The research center is the Bendheim Center for Finance, which has ties to the university’s Department of Computer Science, Department of Economics, and Department of Operations Research and Financial Engineering. Students with backgrounds in physics, mathematics, business, or engineering would benefit from enrolling in the 2-semester program. The program features specializations in financial technologies, financial engineering, and risk management, or quantitative asset management and macroeconomic forecasting. In 2008, Advanced Trading magazine named the program among the best ten quantitative analysis programs in the country.

University of California – Berkeley in Berkeley, CA

The U.S. News & World Report ranked Berkeley 38th on its 2014 list of top graduate business schools for finance in the United States. A 1-year Master of Financial Engineering (M.F.E.) program is available at the UC – Berkeley Haas School of Business. Coursework has a focus on computer science, mathematical, and statistical methods and trains students to pursue careers in financial engineering, such as securities trading, risk management, and investment banking. The program incorporates a 10-week applied finance and internship project. In 2008, Advanced Trading magazine rated the program as belonging among the top ten quantitative analysis programs offered in the United States.
