Degree Overview: Associate of Arts (A.A.) Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies

A.A. Programs in Interdisciplinary Studies

Students enrolled in an associate degree program in interdisciplinary studies can expect to experience an expansive educational experience. Generally, coursework is devised to help students focus on various areas of concentration, such as education, business, communication, social science, or mathematics.

Different schools may include different coursework in such programs depending on the area of concentration chosen by the student. For instance, a student may wish to hone his skills related to quantitative reasoning, or may want to gain knowledge about the history of humans. Additionally, programs may broadly help a student to develop his problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills. Admission criteria typically require applicants to hold a GED certificate or high school diploma.

Coursework

Coursework related to an associate degree program in interdisciplinary studies may often require students to complete both general education classes and coursework in the area of emphasis selected by the student. Such coursework may include various topic areas, including the Bible, natural science, history and English composition. Coursework topics may include:

Career Choices

Although employers of counselors, social workers and teachers may consider a candidate with an associate degree in interdisciplinary studies, most employers expect to employ those who have completed at least two years of college education. However, those who successfully graduate from an associate’s degree program in interdisciplinary studies can seek entry-level careers in various fields such as:

•Administration

Continuing Education Choices

Graduates who choose to pursue continued education may consider earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology, business, or education. They could also target specific degree programs such as a business management or business administration program.
