Generally, coursework is devised to help students focus on various areas of concentration, such as education, business, communication, social science, or mathematics.

Different schools may include different coursework in such programs depending on the area of concentration chosen by the student. For instance, a student may wish to hone his skills related to quantitative reasoning, or may want to gain knowledge about the history of humans. Additionally, programs may broadly help a student to develop his problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills. Admission criteria typically require applicants to hold a GED certificate or high school diploma.
