Bachelor’s Degree Program in Biblical Studies

Students that wish to enroll in a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Biblical Studies could also consider a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Religion or a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Philosophy and Religion, both with a specialization in biblical studies.

The program is devised to give students an exposition to the history behind religious movements as well as theories of religion. Languages and biblical texts may also be focus areas of a bachelor’s degree program in biblical studies. Program coursework is devised to encourage the completion of job-training in work environments, such as hospitals and churches, during the program.

Education Requirements

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or a high school diploma. However, schools may not insist on the completion of specific course requirements if the students have completed them during their secondary education.

Coursework

Schools usually expect students to study the Hebrew or Greek languages as a part of the coursework. Additionally, those that wish to attend seminaries after they complete the course may be allowed to choose elective courses from various topic areas, including history of the church, psychology, European and American history, and managerial accounting.

Core coursework may include topic areas such as the following:

•Philosophies of religion

•Systematic theology
•Principles of biblical interpretation
•Developing a Christian mindset
•Church administration
•Christian ethics
•Life and teachings of Christ

Career Choices

•Chaplain (in a correctional institution or hospital)
•Pastor
•Missionary

Continuing Education Choices

Graduates of the bachelor’s degree program may opt for continuing education by earning a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Biblical Studies. They may also seek continuing education in numerous other areas, such as humanities, communication, or business.
