Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree Programs in Immunology

Schools offer bachelor’s programs in Immunology under different nomenclatures such as BS in Immunology and Infectious Disease and BS in Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics. During an Immunology bachelor’s program, students are taught about the methods used by animals and humans to ward off attacking pathogens, such as bacteria, fungi and viruses. This interdisciplinary subject covers research in biochemistry, cell biology and genetics. Knowledge of immunology is essential in the development of drugs and vaccines aimed at combating several medical issues including certain kinds of cancer, apart from immunodeficiencies and tissue destruction. Schools may also offer research opportunities with a focus on diseases, such as herpes and AIDS.

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or high school diploma.
