Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree Program in Child Care Management

Students will be provided with the administrative skills and child development knowledge necessary for performing a leadership role in a child care center when they are enrolled in a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) program in Child Care Management.

Child care managers work closely with parents, staff, and children to ensure a healthy and safe learning setting. Students gain a strong foundation in childhood environment administration, marketing, and design.

Schools often offer child care management as a specialization or concentration within a degree program, most often in human development and family relations or family or consumer sciences.

Admission criteria require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or a high school diploma.

Coursework

Elements of parenting perspectives, child care administration, curriculum planning, and child development are examined to augment full-time fieldwork experience as needed in college- or university-affiliated child care facilities or human service agencies. Core coursework may include topic areas such as:

Continuing Education Choices

Those that complete a bachelor’s degree may seek continuing education by enrolling in graduate programs in child development or early childhood education in order to seek leadership positions within child care facilities. Those interested in jobs in research or academia may seek enrollment in doctorate programs. Some holders of a bachelor’s degree may wish to join the workforce immediately.

Job and Wage Outlook

A faster-than-average job growth rate of 17% has been predicted for preschool and child care center directors, including childcare managers, over the 2012 – 2022 decade (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). In 2012, administrators of preschool and child care center programs brought home an average annual wage of $43,950 (BLS). These professionals received the highest pay in hospitals, public schools, and government agencies.
