B.S. Programs in Information Systems

Schools typically offer bachelor’s degree programs in Information Systems as a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems, not as a Bachelor of Information Systems. Students enrolled in Information Systems programs can expect to become adept at implementing, organizing and managing complex systems of data and information resources. They are taught to resolve a wide array of business-related problems and inquiries, in addition to identifying ethical and legal issues in information systems organizations.

While the job growth rate of 25% has been predicted for systems analysts over the 2012-2022 decade, a 15% employment increase has been projected for information systems, 8% for computer programmers, and 37% for information security analysts (BLS).

Continuing Education Choices

Graduates of a bachelor’s degree program in Information Systems may pursue professional certification, which is offered by product vendors, training institutions and computer associations. Students can continue their education through a Master of Science in Information Systems program. In-depth education in business and computing is provided by master’s degrees, which qualifies students for management positions.
