The role of advertising and marketing is to communicate the desirability or usefulness of a product to customers in order to persuade them to purchase it. Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree programs in Marketing and Advertising will teach students how to present services and products to potential consumers to assist them in making practical and ethical decisions.

B.S. Programs in Marketing and Advertising

Students enrolled in a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree programs in Marketing and Advertising are imparted sound knowledge about marketing practices as well as general business principles; during the program they can explore the modern tools and technology that are employed in productive advertising.

Coursework includes buyer behavior, in addition to a broad outline of basic business ideas, such as business law, finance and accounting. This is followed by modern methods of advertising and marketing engendered by technological innovations such as the Internet. Viral campaigning, Internet advertising, collaborative advertising with technological services, and social media marketing are also explored by students.

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or high school diploma, along with other requirements for college admittance.

Job and Wage Outlook

A job growth rate of 23% has been predicted for public relations specialists over the 2010-2020 decade, while a job growth rate of 41% has been predicted for market research analysts over the same period (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)). In May 2012, specialists earned an average annual wage of $54,170, while research analysts and marketing specialists took home an average annual wage of $60,300. Marketing managers, who are expected to enjoy a job growth rate of 14% during the 2010-2020 decade, earned an average annual wage of $133,700, in May 2012.

Continuing Education Choices

Graduates of the bachelor degree program can pursue continued education by earning either a master’s or doctorate level degree. Students’ overall business expertise can be enhanced through these degrees while giving them the choice of focusing their studies on marketing areas. Students would need to do extensive independent study in order to center their research on particular points of interest or marketing problems selected by them.
