Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) Programs in Digital Media

Few schools, if any, offer Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degrees with a specialization in digital media management or digital media. However, students may complete coursework in digital media as part of the general MBA curriculum, or as part of a digital marketing concentration within the MBA degree program.

Apart from an undergraduate degree, incoming students may also have to satisfy coursework and testing requirements. After they have enrolled, applicants may be given the opportunity to complete a digital portfolio and an internship, in addition to a thesis.

Education Requirements

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to have an undergraduate degree as well as knowledge of business processes and business terminology. They are also commonly required to know about finance, accounting, and statistics. In some business schools, students are expected to pass a Graduate Record Exams (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) before they can get admitted to an MBA program.

Students enrolled in MBA in Digital Marketing degree programs are taught media and business communication using new media techniques, apart from computer technology. Coursework also involves discussion of social media management, digital media law, brand development, digital marketing, and trends in digital media.

Computer communication skills are learned by students while they build a foundation of supervisory and business leadership expertise. Apart from coursework, an internship, a portfolio, and a master’s thesis are often required to be completed. Core coursework may include topic areas such as:

•Social media
•Strategic planning
•New media marketing
•Digital strategy
•Media law

Career Choices

Program graduates can seek mid- to upper-level business management careers in telecommunications, new media or publishing. Students may also start their companies and use new media techniques to accomplish success. They may choose from popular career options such as:

•Brand management
•Media and entertainment

Continuing Education Choices

Program graduates may seek continued education by earning a Ph.D. in Business Administration with a focus on learning advanced skills in strategy, marketing and management. Within digital media doctoral programs, theories in technology, science and art are investigated via project-oriented coursework.
