Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree Program in Health Care Administration

Students enrolled in bachelor’s degree programs in health care administration are required to complete studies in several disciplines, such as business, economics, sociology, finance and healthcare services. Before students begin core healthcare administration coursework, they must spend the first two years of the 4-year program taking core classes, such as economics, biology and English. The program may be customized by students through elective concentrations or courses in areas such as long-term care or health care advocacy.

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or high school diploma. Incoming students at many schools are required to complete the majority of the core coursework before they are admitted to the healthcare administration program. Specific courses are required to be completed by incoming students to some schools; these include economics, psychology and basic math.

Students examine health personnel operations management, marketing, and management. They will become adept at evaluating and analyzing delivery systems and programs, in addition to completing an internship. Core coursework may include topic areas such as:

•Global health care
•Ethical issues in health care
