Few schools offer a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Database Technology; however, students interested in the field can pursue a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Information Technology program with classes provided in database administration and technology. Job and Wage Outlook

A much-faster-than-average job growth rate of 15% has been predicted for database administrators over the 2012 –2022 decade (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). Network and computer systems administrators are expected to see a high job growth rate of 12% over the same decade. In May 2012, database administrators took home an average annual wage of $77,080, and network and computer systems administrators banked $72,560 (BLS).

Continuing Education and Certification Information

While employers insist on no more than a bachelor’s degree graduate for database administrator positions, graduates of a master’s degree, such as a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) in Management Information Systems, may be preferred.

Bachelor’s degree program graduates can pursue master’s degree programs in database technology, in addition to relevant areas such as computer information systems, computer science, or information technology.
