Georgia Southern State University, Georgia Southern University, and South Georgia College are just some schools located in this section of the state.
Georgia Southern University – Statesboro, Georgia
Georgia Southern University (GSU) is the largest higher education center in South Georgia and in 1906 it began as an agricultural college. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has classified GSU as a ‘Doctoral and Research University’. There are over one hundred thirty undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs offered by GSU through eight colleges. There are several academic programs offered in information technology, public health, social studies, liberal arts, health and human sciences, and education. The school’s College of Business Administration is one of the most prestigious and largest colleges at the university; it was ranked as one of the country’s 301 top business schools by the Princeton Review.

South Georgia College – Douglas, Georgia
This two-year college has certificate and associate degree programs in more than thirty areas of study for students to enroll into. The associate degree programs are designed to help transition students to a four-year University System of Georgia university or college. South Georgia College is one of the few junior colleges in Georgia, which offers on-campus housing to students that is a contributing factor to the seventy percent of students who are enrolled full-time.

Valdosta State University – Valdosta, Georgia
Valdosta State University provides doctoral, master, bachelor, and associate degree programs. A specialize graduate degree in education is available. Common majors include psychology, nursing, English literature, management, business, and early childhood education. During the past five years, Valdosta State University have been implementing major structural changes and improving its facilities to accommodate the increasing population of students. Current improvements include the installation of specialized equipment in the spectroscopy and biotechnical facility, and the science center.
