Degree Overview: Associate of Management and Accounting
Majors Overview June 3, 2013Management and accounting associate degree program will equip students with the managerial, business, and accounting skills needed to obtain entry-level employment in office and business settings. Associate of Management programs might not be available, but an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) and Associate of Science (A.S.) program will be available in accounting or management and accounting.
Associate Degree Program in Accounting and Management
Students who successfully complete the associate degree program in accounting and management can acquire a business background that will equip them to maintain, interpret, and create financial records for organizations, governments, and corporations. Students enrolled in management and accounting associate degree program will gain the knowledge needed to assist companies with budget analysis, accounting, taxes, and other areas required for profitable and successful operation. Typically, students are required to hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma to gain admission to the program.

Program coursework will allow students to develop skills in cost analysis, data management, inventory control, financial reporting, and other areas needed for entry-level management accounting positions. Program course topics may include the following:

Career Options
Management and accounting associate degree programs will prepare students for entry-level employment performing tasks in areas such as revenue balancing, loan monitoring, records management, and data processing. These professionals may obtain the follow job titles:
•Bookkeepers
•Accounting clerks
•Administrative service managers
Certification and Continuing Education Information
Accountants are usually required to hold a bachelor degree to obtain employment. These programs are typically available as a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) with a concentration in accounting. At the bachelor degree level, students will receive certification as a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) though the Institute of Management Accountants.
Beyond the bachelor degree level, students can enroll in a Master of Accountancy or a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in accounting. These degree programs will prepare students for advanced roles, including management or administrative positions in business environments. Master degree programs usually provide students enough credit hours (150) to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.
