Qualification Details of a Cardiac Nurse Practitioner

If you are already registered as a nurse, you can easily become a cardiac nurse practitioner by completing a master’s degree program or if you already have a master’s degree, you can enroll for a cardiology nurse fellowship program, then join the profession.

Career Overview of a Cardiac Nurse Practitioner

During a master’s program in Nursing, nurses are trained in adult cardiovascular care. The type of care nurses are given range from the different types of cardiovascular diseases that affects people, treatments for these cardiovascular diseases while the nurses also receive hands on clinical experience in their work. Nurses with only a bachelor’s degree can also qualify to be a nurse practitioner after undergoing a certificate program besides pursuing a master’s degree program.

For nurses with a master’s degree program, they can harness their skills by attending a one year nurse fellowship program. Actually, these programs are done on an out of class basis, whereby the nurses work with cardiac patients for the time they are sick. Another advantage of such a program is that the nurse is able to develop their communication skills, which they can later effectively use when working together with members of staff and other physicians or family members.

A nurse can also enroll for a doctorate program in nursing, which is in fact very indispensable in their work. The course helps them develop their leadership and clinical skills besides other skills that you can learn once you specialize in a specific area.

The following are the main education requirements that a cardiac nurse practitioner is expected to have before joining for the profession.

Cardiac Nursing Program: Have at least a masters degree in nursing, cardiology nurse practitioner fellowship, and a Doctor’s degree in Nursing practitioner
Prerequisites: A basic bachelor’s degree, GRE or GMAT and has a recommendation letter for you to enroll for a master’s degree in this profession, and finally, you must have a license before you can actively work as a nursing practitioner.

Master of Science in Nursing

This course trains the students how to treat cardiovascular diseases and also understand the impact their treatments may have on the patients. Also, the nurses are given skills on how to help alleviate and treat cardiac distress and related illnesses. They are also required to get training on the following areas:

•Nursing practices and theories
•Mentality of a patient
•History of cardiovascular disease
•How to treat cardiovascular disease

A related Fellowship Program

It helps the participants learn more about cardiovascular diseases, the diagnosis process and the best ways to treat the diseases once they are recognized. The course teaches the students about cardiovascular diseases in general as well as preparing them to work in all areas of nursing.

Career Opportunities and Salary Details

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics estimate that jobs for cardiac nurse practitioners will grow at an average rate of 25% per year. Their median salary in the year 2014 was $95,350.
