Introduction

Here are five current or recent job descriptions for critical care positions in Intensive Care (Pediatric), Trauma Services, Cardiac Critical Care, Oncology Acute Critical Care and Emergency Room:

Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU)

Location: Akron Children’s Hospital

Position Description: Individually assesses plans and manages care; collaborates with PICU intensivists; acts as liaison between family members and health care team; performs procedures such as radial arterial line placement and lumbar puncture; develops protocols and procedures and is an adjunct in educating nursing and resident staff.

Qualifications Required: Must be licensed to practice professional nursing in Ohio. An MSN and graduation from a pediatric nurse practitioner program is also required. Applicant must also be eligible or certified as Acute Care pediatric nurse practitioner and possess an Ohio certificate to prescribe.

BLS and PALS are also required, and CCRN certification is preferred. A minimum of 2 years pediatric acute experience is required. Superior critical thinking and interpersonal communication are essential.

Nurse Practitioner – Trauma Services

Location: McKay-Dee Hospital Ogden, UT

Position Description: The applicant selected will be responsible for providing patient care and other activities as permitted by licensure and defined within the hospital’s Credentialing and Privileging documentation.

This position requires delivering optimal patient care, education of the patient, patient’s family, clinical staff, and others; consultation with other healthcare providers. Current knowledge regarding options for optimal patient care and outcomes is required.

Minimum Requirements

•Current state licensing as Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
•Nurse Practitioner Certification
•Eligibility for State Controlled Substance License II through V
•Eligibility for Federal DEA Certificate II through V
•BLS Healthcare Provider Certification
•Other certifications such as ACLS, PALS, TNCC and NRP where necessary

Preferred Requirements

•Trauma Services or Critical Care experience preferred
•Master’s Degree or Higher

Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Cardiac Critical Care

Location: Inova Fairfax Hospital Falls Church, VA

Position Description: Full-time Acute Care Nurse Practitioner needed for Cardiac Critical Care department. Clinical Practice & Management of Care includes providing safe therapeutic care in holistic and systemic way. The NP provides management and assessment of care for critically ill patients under the supervision of an MD.

The acute nurse practitioner exercises independent thinking in assessing, diagnosis and initiation of medical procedures in accordance with licensing. The acute care NP must communicate effectively and collaboratively with others. Evidenced Based Nursing standards, guidelines, and protocols, must inform the care process.

Job & Education Requirements: 3-5 years’ experience as clinical RN is required. Cardiac experience is required. An Acute Care NP is preferred. A BSN and Masters in an advanced clinical practice or a post masters certificate for nurse practitioners or a certificate from a program with accreditation approved by the hospital is required.

Nurse Practitioner Oncology Acute and Critical Care

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Position Description: NP selected must provide independent nursing and collaborative medical management to a patient population in the department of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation and will be joining a clinical team of transplant physicians, Nurse Coordinators, Social Workers and Case Managers.

Some of the responsibilities of the Nurse Practitioner include: Delivery of clinical, providing primary and secondary care. Services may include: performing history and physical examinations, ordering, performing and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory test and therapies, as well as furnishing drugs and other devices for specific conditions.

Emergency Room Nurse Practitioner

Employment Outlook
