What is an Associate of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts or Liberal Studies?

There are a few students who cannot make up their minds about the career paths they want to pursue; such students would benefit from enrolling in an Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies, allowing them to complete general education courses, even as they simultaneously fulfill fundamental educational prerequisites. Completion of the program will arm students with the confidence of being able to explore potential career and educational opportunities while simultaneously equipping themselves with a solid foundation in general education. Once they have successfully completed an AA degree in Liberal Studies, students will be able to go on to earn a four-year degree at any universities or colleges.

Course Requirements

Students who are enrolled in Liberal Studies courses usually design their own program of study, but common requirements include humanities, social sciences, physics, biology, and art courses. Typically, core courses in this degree program will include the following:

•Foreign Language
•Sociology
•College Algebra and above
•Biology or chemistry
•U.S. History and Politics
•English composition

Skills Attained

A broad-based education can be built by students enrolled in an AA in Liberal Studies degree program (source: the College Board).
