The health of patient’s mouth and teeth are handled by professionals known as dentists. Admission criteria in most dental schools require applicants to have completed a 4-year dental school program; in addition, two years tenure in pre-dental college, and an undergraduate degree program. In this article, we will look at some of the best dentistry schools in the United States.

Harvard University – Boston, Massachusetts

This university was founded in 1867 as the Harvard Dental School. In 2012, Harvard University was accorded top rank by U.S. News and World Report on its list of Best Colleges. This is Harvard’s only school with its own clinical facility and offers a Doctor of Philosophy in Biological Sciences and a Doctor of Dental Medicine through its School of Dental Medicine. Advanced graduate academic programs are available in areas such as implantology, periodontology, and orthodontics that can lead to a Doctor of Medical Sciences or Master of Medical Sciences. Faculty and alumni at this school conduct research that focuses on oral and systemic health aimed at improving clinical application and research training.

University of Florida – Gainesville, Florida

In 2012, University of Florida – Gainesville was rated 58th among the best colleges in the country by the U.S. News and World Report. The College of Dentistry, which enjoys accreditation from the Commission on Dental Accreditation, is the solitary public dental school in the state of Florida. Every year, approximately eighty students are allowed to enroll into the D.M.D. program at the school. There are thirteen master degree programs offered at the college; these include programs in maxillofacial and oral surgery, endodontics and oral biology. The college also offers a course for dentists who received education outside the U.S.

University of the Pacific – San Francisco, California

University of the Pacific is a private school with its main campus located in Stockton, California; however, its dental school, the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry is in San Francisco. The school, rated 101st in 2012 by the U.S. News and World Report on its list of national universities, has more than five hundred residents and students. There are five certificate and degree programs offered at the school alongside a Doctor of Dental Surgery program; these include a graduate course in orthodontics, an international dental studies course, and a maxillofacial and oral surgery residency.
