Students residing in Dallas, Texas who is interested in completing a program in computer-aided drafting and design can enroll into Mountain View Community College (MVCC), a member of Dallas County Community College District. The mathematics, business and computer science division of the college have many educational options for students to choose from including certification courses, and an associate of applied science degree program. The school that is situated in Dallas, Texas began operations in 1970. The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has accredited the school, which students can become members of cultural, athletic and religious clubs. In the spring of 2011, the school had 8,718 students enrolled in its three divisions, including the computer science, mathematics and business division where the computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) programs are housed. The Business, Computer Science and Mathematics Division have eleven programs; the completion of any programs can either earn students a certificate or an associate degree. There are different Computer-Aided Drafting and Design Programs offered at MVCC. In this article, we have listed some of them.

Computer-Aided Design Operator Certificate Program: This program teaches students how to create 3-D and 2-D drawings while honing their skills in areas such as basic computer-aided drafting, architectural illustration, and technical drafting. Students are required to select two electives, and they are given a list of programs to choose from; these involve solid modeling, 3-D animation, and parametric modeling and design. This certification course requires twenty to twenty-three credit hours to be completed.

Computer-Aided Design Advanced Operator Certificate Program: This certification course requires thirty-five credit hours to be completed. Coursework includes a wide variety of topics such as advanced computer-aided manufacturing, introductory computer-aided drafting, advanced machining techniques and machine shop techniques. The program is devised to prepare students with skills that will assist them in a career that involves operation of machinery.

Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing-Computer Numeric-Controls Certificate Program: This program runs for two semesters during which students are given hands on training in a machine shop environment and learn how to create blueprints. Additionally, they are introduced to and taught more advanced methods relating to computer-aided manufacturing and computer-aided design. The course requires students to complete one math course with a focus on math for machine shops, or algebra.

Computer-Aided Design Architectural Drafting Certificate Program: This course will attract students seeking specialized training in architectural drafting and design; coursework includes training in the drafting of residential and commercial buildings and the study of materials employed in architecture. The students are given a list of courses to choose from and they must select two electives. These cover topics such as parametric modeling, blueprint sketching and mechanical drafting. This course runs for no more than two semesters.

Associate of Applied Science in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design Program: This course will take two years for students to complete. Candidates are required to learn how to read and how to create blueprints. They are introduced to computer-aided drafting systems. Students are required to complete one semester in a cooperative education environment during which they are given hands-on training. Also, they are required to complete elective courses; these include different types of drafting, including topographical, electrical and mechanical. During the last semester, students are required to participate in a comprehensive project. The associate degree program that accounts for sixty-two to seventy-two credit hours includes general education coursework in communications, mathematics and psychology.
