Trident Technical College

Trident Technical College (TTC) offers over one hundred sixty academic courses and technical training programs. Students in the Charleston area can use these courses as a preparatory mode before they enroll into programs at a four-year university. With its focus on lifelong learning, student success and teaching, TTC offers classroom instruction at various campuses in Dorchester, Charleston and Berkeley counties. Students can attend certificate, diploma and associate degree programs that TTC offers; coursework includes various subject areas such as electronics, horticulture, engineering technology, filmmaking, early childhood development and culinary arts.

College of Charleston

One of the oldest educational institutions in the country, the College of Charleston begin in 1770 and has an avowed mission of enriching students on its historic campus located in the center of old Charleston. In its 2010 rankings, U.S. News & World Report rated the College of Charleston as being the 4th best among southern master degree public universities. Also, the college was described by Newsweek as one of the ‘most interesting’ schools in the country. There are nine certificate courses, alongside forty-five bachelor degree programs and eighteen master degree programs offered at the university in its eight colleges and schools. The programs offered at College of Charleston include history, biology, education, biology, opera and business.

Citadel Military College of South Carolina

This university, also referred to as The citadel; comprised of five schools including South Carolina Corps of Cadets, offers programs through a military system in business, education, engineering, social sciences, mathematics and science. Approximately one of three students graduating from The Citadel will likely join the military. In 2010, The Citadel named by the U.S. News & World Report as the best value offered by southern colleges with at least a graduate degree program. The report also named this public school the second-best of its kind in the South. Students enrolled in this college are required to meet U.S. army physical standards.
