Associate Degree Programs in Accounting Systems Administration

Through the associate degree programs in accounting, students will learn about accounting systems. In this article, we will provide information on career prospects, advanced programs, and courses to help students make an informed decision about their education.

Associate Degree Programs in Accounting

Students enrolled in an associate degree program in accounting will become adept at using computerized accounting systems and accounting software. Courses in office administration will be included in the program. Students in the accounting programs will become proficient with the reporting, analysis, organization, and collection of financial data through the use of technological equipment, such as computers.

Community colleges, technical schools and vocational schools offer associate degree programs in accounting that usually takes two years to complete. Admission criteria require applicants to hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma. Courses in computer literacy, business math and English composition are required to be completed by students before they enroll.

Professional Certifications and Continuing Education

Graduates from the associate degree program may pursue a bachelor or master degree program in accounting information systems. These programs will combine accounting system courses, computer application knowledge, and business concepts. Additionally, graduates will be able to enroll in a doctoral, master, or bachelor degree programs in accounting or business administration with a specialization in accounting.

Auditing, bookkeeping, or accounting clerk is required to pass the four-part examination administered by the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB) in order to obtain the Certified Bookkeeper designation. Applicants are required to agree to an ethics code, as well as having a minimum of two years of full-time experience. The AIPB offer classes where auditing, bookkeeping, and accounting clerks can update their knowledge.
