Associate Degree Program in Database Administration

Few schools, if any, offer Associate in Specialized Business: Database Administration degree programs; however, students who are interested in the field can choose from database management or database administration degrees that are usually offered as an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) or an Associate of Science (A.S.)degree. Businesses are increasingly using databases to store information in digital format and for a number of other purposes, such as tracking customer payments and monitor customer preferences. Patient records are stored in secure databases at doctor’s offices and hospitals. Students enrolled in an associate degree program in database administration will learn about managing many parts of organizational and business databases, including data, programming, software and hardware. Admission criteria typically require applicants to hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma.

Program Coursework

Most associate degree program courses revolve around troubleshooting and designing databases. Much of the work is hands-on, allowing students to alter and program database software. Program course topics may include the following:

Associate degree program graduates who want to further their education should consider pursuing a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science degree program. Students enrolled in a bachelor degree program will learn about the fundamentals of computer programming, artificial intelligence, networking, and computer theory. Students who have earned their Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree will be prepared to solve technological problems by developing computer programs that are used in numerous sectors, such as government, education, and business. These degree programs will prepare students to sit for industry certification that are offered through certain software vendors. This may include certification in CompTIA A+, Cisco Network, Oracle, and Microsoft Network.
