Degree Overview: Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Digital Media

Digital media are a combination of communication in digital format along with traditional broad media, the arts, music, and other forms of media. An Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Digital Media degree program prepares students to work in different industries with various career options, including animation specialist and game developer. Courses will cover marketing, advertising, and website design, among other studies.

A.A.S. in Digital Media Degree Program

The majority of Associate of Applied Science in Digital Media programs spans duration of two years. Enrolled students are taught about web scripting, multimedia, imaging editing, video production and digital design. They are educated on the fundamentals of content production for games, television, radio, the cinema and the Internet. Schools may require applicants who want to gain admission to hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma, along with submitting standardized test scores.

Students may also have the opportunity to create a professional portfolio while enrolled and learn more about software and hardware used in digital media. Information on Continuing Education

Multimedia animators and artists are expected by employers to hold at least a bachelor’s degree (source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). Graduates are allowed by some associate’s programs in digital media to transfer their credits earned to a four-year bachelor’s degree program to continue their education in the field. Subjects such as web technologies, project management, motion picture production, audio engineering, and administrative management are the focus areas of some programs.
