Degree Overview: Associate of Human Resources Management

By completing an associate degree program, individuals may begin their career path in human resources management. Students who have completed the human resources management associate degree program will develop a foundation of skills and knowledge in the field that may help them qualify for entry-level jobs.

Associate Degree Program in Human Resources Management

Through an associate degree program that usually takes two years to complete, students can acquire knowledge about the main principles and ideas of employment laws, management theories and human resources management. Students can also become adept in dealing with common employee issues, creating an effective employee base and providing a good work setting for employees. In-depth knowledge of compensation, safety, staffing and training allows individuals to learn how to function effectively as human resources employees.

Once students complete the associate degree program, they will become adept at coordinating training programs, assist other managers with employment law issues, organize safety programs, maintain personnel records, administer payroll, and interviewing potential employees. To gain admission to most programs, students are required to hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma.

Human resources management associate degree program curriculum is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to manage a company’s human resource department. Students may take several basic educational courses in subjects such as math, English, and humanities. Basic business courses with topics such as computer applications, professional ethics, organizational behavior, and management are also covered.
