Associate Degree Program in Management

Schools usually offer two-year associate degree programs in management as an Associate of Science (A.S.) or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Business Management. Enrolled students are taught about concepts in human resources, communication and financial management. The associate degree program will prepare students for entry-level management positions. For those seeking more advanced degrees, the program allows direct transfer of credits to a four-year bachelor’s degree program. Admission criteria typically require applicants to hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma.

Program Coursework

The associate degree program may include fundamental business core, such as general subjects like accounting, marketing, and finance, as well as management curriculum, including subjects like communication and labor relations. Along with basic educational courses, topics of study in an associate degree program in business management may include the following:

•Macro and microeconomics
•Entrepreneurship
•Employment law
•Business ethics
•Organizational strategy
•Human resource management
•Managerial and financial accounting

Career Options

Students enrolled in the associate degree program in management will learn how to work with others, how to promote a business, as well as time management. These are skills necessary to start a business or for entry-level management positions. Graduates might qualify for the following careers:

•Management trainee
•Office clerk
•Administrative service manager

Information on Continuing Education

Associate degree program graduates seeking continued education can consider enrolling in bachelor’s degree programs such as the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Business Administration or Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A). Students enrolled in these programs are allowed to opt for majors in a variety of areas of business, such as marketing, accounting or finance and could also select management as an area of concentration. Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs are also available and will offer specialization opportunities in management.
