Degree Overview: Associate of Science (A.S.) – Computer Graphic Design
Majors Overview August 18, 2013Typically, colleges and universities do not offer Associate of Science (A.S.) in Computer Graphic Design degree program; students may pursue an associate degree program in graphic design technology. The associate degree program will prepare students for opportunities in website design, computer graphics, and advertising.
Associate Degree Program in Graphic Design Technology
Students who are enrolled in an associate degree program in graphic design technology are trained to develop visual media by using electronic technology. Students in the degree program will learn how to apply their creative talents in producing art that is germane to the world of business. They can expect to become adept at analysis for client needs and development of marketable digital representations for brochures, displays, promotional packaging and logos. Programs such as InDesign, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator are typically used by students enrolled in these degree programs. Admission criteria typically require applicants to hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma.

The two-year associate degree programs can collaborate with nonprofit organizations to offer students a chance to design graphics while helping their communities. Through internship and co-op opportunities, students will gain real-world experience. They will learn how to exhibit their skills in animation, illustration, layout, color, and type through a portfolio.
