Degree Overview: Associate of Science (A.S.) Degree in Interactive and Graphic Art

Publication design theories and traditional layout, along with modern technologies used in motion graphics, website design, and interactive designs will be taught to students in Interactive and Graphic Art programs. Those who graduate will be prepared for entry-level jobs in digital publishing, graphic art, and Web design.

Associate of Science (A.S.) Degree Programs in Interactive and Graphic Art

Students enrolled in an associate’s degree program in Interactive and Graphic Art will be trained to seek entry-level occupations in graphic art, digital publishing and web design. Students are taught entry-level skills in interactive design, web design and coding languages by employing industry-standard software applications. Additionally, the program develops the visual communication, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills of students. Students also engage in designing and building a portfolio to showcase their technical abilities and skills to potential recruiters.

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or high school diploma.

Coursework

Coursework in Interactive and Graphic Art programs is a combination of visual literacy and typography courses, in addition to interactive design, motion graphics and computer animation. Comprehension of traditional art fundamentals in color, painting, and drawing is also imparted to students enrolled in the program. General education courses in science, social science, humanities and math are also completed, in addition to design and art courses such as:

While an associate’s degree will suffice the requirement of students seeking assistant positions, recruiters for graphic designer positions typically prefer bachelor’s degree holders (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). Graduates of the associate degree program may aspire for job titles such as:

Associate of Science degree programs may prepare graduates for a bachelor’s degree program, which provides advanced training in art and design.
