Information on Theology Degree Programs

Individuals who wish to dedicate their lives to a missionary purpose or the church would benefit by enrolling in a bachelor’s degree program in theology. Students enrolled in the program are allowed to belong to a like-minded community, and can network and become involved therein. Armed with a Bachelor of Theology (B.Th.), students can take a close look at various religions, including Christianity, and their impact on the world.

Education Requirements

Admission requirements vary by school; a bachelor’s degree may be required by students seeking to earn a Bachelor of Theology (B.Th.). Incoming students to a theology degree program may need to demonstrate dedication to the church and prior ministry experience.

Students enrolled in some programs are allowed to pursue a theology bachelor’s degree and another area of study, concurrently. Student can enroll in other accelerated programs, whereby they can combine religious studies bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.

Coursework

Students usually take three to five years to complete bachelor’s degree programs in theology. The program covers numerous concepts over its duration, including Christianity, ministry, theology, bible studies, philosophy, and other religions. Core coursework may include topic areas such as the following:

Career Choices

Those who graduate from a Bachelor of Theology (B.Th.) degree program may seek numerous job positions, including seminarian, missionary, pastor, and lay leader. For many professions, candidates would need to educate themselves beyond a bachelor’s degree program. Regardless of the profession of an individual, he or she is required to become adept at living and working in a proactive fashion, once he or she completes a bachelor’s degree program in theology.

Continuing Education Choices

Those who complete a bachelor’s degree program may opt for continuing education by earning a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Theology or a Doctorate in Sacred Theology (S.T.D.), whereby they can gain a stronger grasp of divinity or theology while pursuing positions such as leaders, teachers, or pastors in a religious setting.
