Students in bachelor’s degree programs in information technology will be prepared to analyze, manage, and create information databases and computer networks. Bachelor’s Degree Programs in Information Technology

Students enrolled in bachelor’s degree programs in information technology learn how to process and organize digital information and develop skills involved in web design, software engineering, networking, operating systems, computer programming, and database management. In keeping with the practical objectives of the program, students are taught skills related to financial management, marketing, and business.

While few schools offer bachelor’s degree programs in information technology with a concentration in computer systems, coursework in the program involves examination of fundamental concepts in computer science. Students can choose from specializations in infrastructure management, information security, and systems administration.

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or a high school diploma.

A job growth rate of 15% has been predicted for computer and information systems managers over the 2012 – 2022 decade (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). During the same period, network and computer systems administrators are expected to enjoy job growth of 12%. In 2012, information systems managers took home an average annual wage of $120,950, while network administrators banked $72,560.

Certification and Continuing Education Options

Graduates of the bachelor’s degree program may seek continuing education by earning master’s or doctoral degrees in business, computer science, or related fields. They can also opt for voluntary certifications that would help validate skills and increase employment opportunities.
