Those that have obtained a bachelor’s degree will understand computer hardware architecture, communicate within a team, and learn to apply technological principles to networking and programming problems. Graduates have the skills needed for positions in telecommunications firms, business management companies, and computer design companies.

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree Programs in Computer Technology Concentrating on Networking

Few schools, if any, offer a B.S. in Computer Technology with a concentration in network engineering; however, interested students can choose from concentrations in network security, network management, and networking. Students can expect to learn how to maintain, design, troubleshoot, and install networks with a variety of operating systems.
Hands-on practice is used to teach them technical, communication, analytical problem solving, and critical thinking skills. Students also become adept in analyzing problems, formulating solutions, examining user needs, meeting professional standards, and understanding computing practices.

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or a high school diploma, in addition to other requirements as applicable.

The middle 50% of computer network architects took home between $69,470 and $115,320, while the middle 50% of database administrators made between $57,240 and $99,430, and the same segment of web developers received between $44,860 and $83,450. A job growth rate of 12% has been predicted for network administrators over the 2012 – 2022 decade. Web developers are expected to enjoy growth of 20% and database administrators, 15%.

Continuing Education Choices

Graduates of the bachelor’s program may pursue continuing education by earning a master’s degree in information technology or a concentration in a networking-related area.
