Those who complete an electronics engineering program can seek employment in entry-level careers as technicians or engineers in numerous industries. The program aims at making students adept at repairing, designing and troubleshooting electronic devices. Accordingly, an overview of important foundational concepts is provided by coursework; these concepts include electrical theory, amplifiers, switches, microprocessors, and controls.
Students also learn about how various components function in hands-on lab sessions, including potentiometers, capacitors, integrated circuits, and transistors. A work-study component is also included in some programs wherein full-time employment as electronics technicians is found by students before the program culminates with their graduation. The degree can be earned within 3-4 years by incoming students who are required to hold an associate degree or a high school diploma.

An ABET-accreditation may also be necessary for licensure and other requirements. A slower-than-average job growth rate has been predicted for electronics engineers, over the 2010 – 2020 decade. During the same period, electronics and electrical engineering technicians are expected to see growths of 2% (BLS). In 2012, electronics engineers brought home an average annual wage of $91,820, while electronics and electrical engineering technicians banked $57,850, over the same period.
