The majority of Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) programs focus on finance and accounting, but interested students may concentrate on either field. Get information about both of these programs and their coursework, career choices, job and wage outlook, and continuing education choices.

Information Accounting and Finance Programs

Students enrolled in the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) are offered an advanced understanding of business practices. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accredits schools offering the graduate level degree.

Coursework includes the study of subjects such as ethics and management. Students take one to three years to complete an MBA. Weekend and night classes are available through some M.B.A. programs so that students can enjoy greater flexibility. Admission criteria to M.B.A. programs require substantial professional experience, regardless of the concentration chosen.

Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) Programs in Accounting

Students who choose an accounting concentration in an M.B.A. program learn about tax laws and proper maintenance of financial records. The curriculum includes a variety of academic disciplines, such as law and statistics. Students enrolled in business administration master’s programs learn the analysis of economic statistics and management of human resources. Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

Coursework

Coursework includes classes on forensic accounting, estate taxation, and auditing. Core coursework includes topic areas such as:

Job and Wage Outlook

Those who complete this type of M.B.A. degree program may seek careers in auditing and accounting, although they may need some additional licensure. A job growth of 13% has been predicted for accountants and auditors over the 2012 – 2022 decade (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).

M.B.A. Programs in Finance

Students enrolled in a finance concentration in an M.B.A. degree program are taught principles of investment and financial markets, in addition to topics in banking policy, capital management, and commodities.

Coursework includes subjects in global trade, urban economics, and real estate. Core coursework includes topic areas such as:
