Earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance

Majors Overview March 14, 2014

Those interested in working with the business part of companies should look into a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in Finance. These programs usually feature coursework in basic and advanced business programs, which prepare students for graduate school or entering the workforce.

B.B.A. Programs in Finance

Those who aspire to become financiers would benefit by enrolling in a Bachelor of Business Administration degree program in Finance, which would provide them with a comprehensive understanding of the various ways business professionals handle currency risk, international finance issues, domestic issues, and stocks and bonds. Students enrolled in the program learn about making informed predictions and forecasts about investments and insurance. They are also imparted theoretical and practical knowledge of a variety of business components, such as international finance, corporate finance, portfolio management, financial engineering, and investments.

The program is devised to expose students to the most recent technological advancements in the field; aimed at augmenting their skills in gathering and assessing information. Admission criteria require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or high school diploma.

Coursework

Apart from finance degree programs, students also have to complete general education coursework. Some schools require enrolled students to participate in an internship program or complete core coursework in business administration. Coursework commonly includes topic areas such as:

•Commercial bank management
•Risk management
•International finance and trade overview
•Financial statement analysis
•Real estate investment

Career Choices

Those who successfully complete the program can seek entry-level careers in diverse professional environments, considering there is a demand for finance professionals in a wide array of organizations and companies. Graduates can seek entry-level careers in various areas including financial reporting, investor relations, budget analysis, real estate, and payroll. They may seek different roles such as:

•Financial analysts
•Loan officers
•Personal financial adviser

Continuing Education Choices

Graduates of Bachelor of Business Administration degree programs in Finance may seek continued education by enrolling in Master of Business Administration degree programs in Finance, or Ph.D. in Business Administration programs, in order to advance in their professions. Licensure may also be required in accordance with the needs of the employer and career pursued. For instance, business analysts sponsored by their company may have to approach the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority before they are allowed to practice their profession.

Armed with work experience and education as required, business professionals can also seek professional certification to advance their careers; such certification may include the Certified Financial Planner designation offered through the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, or the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) credential through the CFA Institute.
