Practical Nursing Certificate
LPN programs offered at CUNY LaGuardia Community College prepare graduates to start working as practical nurses in healthcare facilities that offer chronic and acute care services. Once they complete the program, graduates will be ready to pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). This practical nursing certificate program that involves forty-eight credits has two phases: pre-clinical and clinical. Coursework includes subject areas such as mental health nursing, maternal child health nursing, pediatric nursing, medical surgical nursing, fundamental nursing concepts, medical dosage mathematics, psychology, human biology, nutrition and pharmacology, covering topics such as documenting client outcomes, mental health disorders, implementing care plans and diagnosis recognition. Coursework is delivered as a combination of classroom lectures and hands-on training in local healthcare facilities and campus lab settings. Students can also enjoy field experiences in settings such as hospitals, nursing homes and health facilities.
