Master’s Degree Program in Transpersonal Psychology Overview

Majors Overview January 13, 2016

The spiritual aspect of human existence is the focus of transpersonal psychology, an integrative field of study. Students will learn about how humans demonstrate knowledge, express themselves, and relate to nature and people. They will learn how to improve the world’s well-being by applying transpersonal psychology.

Information on Master’s Degree Program in Transpersonal Psychology

Both non-traditional and traditional theories are in the broad field known as transpersonal psychology. Enrollees in a master’s program learn about analyzing and utilizing these ideas in their work. Belief systems in a variety of cultures are in the coursework that encourages the consideration of different worldviews. Program coursework examines topic areas such as yoga, the meaning of dreams, ecopsychology, and rites of passage. The program incorporates the conduct of research and participation in internships. Students may be required to complete a thesis or final research paper. These programs usually take about three years to complete.

Graduates can choose from career options in a variety of fields, including community activism, education, and healthcare. They may continue their education by earning a doctoral degree in transpersonal psychology or a related field.

Master of Arts (M.A.) Programs in Transpersonal Psychology

Program graduates gain expertise in critiquing various traditional and non-traditional psychology theories and methods, conducting research, analyzing situations and applying transpersonal psychology to help the Earth and people.

Students learn about the traditional practices of various cultures as well as their beliefs and perspectives on the world. They gain diverse types of knowledge, including embodied knowledge, emotional intelligence, indigenous knowledge, esoteric knowledge, insight, and sacred learning. They learn about the unconscious and conscious mind, mental health, altered states of consciousness, and methods used to create experiences.

The program is devised to teach enrollees about transpersonal treatments and practices, including self-reflection, meditation, self-awareness, creativity therapy, self-inquiry, psychotherapy, wilderness therapy, and hypnotherapy. The program can result in the expansion of levels of compassion and understanding, in addition to developing conversational, leadership, critical thinking, and deep listening skills.

After they complete coursework, final research papers, and service learning projects, graduates are awarded their MA degrees. Graduates enhance their ability to connect with nature and people and can apply transpersonal psychology principles aimed at improving the well-being of people’s careers and daily lives.
