Majors Overview March 16, 2014

Students will be taught how to give managerial assistance for daily business problems when they participate in the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) program. They will explore basic business methods and concepts for maintaining a socially responsible and ethical business environment. This program will often include training those who can be team leaders. Team leaders should be able to work efficiently in a dynamic business atmosphere.

B.B.A. Programs

Students enrolled in bachelor’s degree programs in Business Administration are trained to assume leadership positions in business organizations. The focus of the program is typically on the development of students’ problem-solving and business communication skills in a business environment. Coursework is devised to give students a global business outlook.

Coursework includes the exploration of ways to make the company perform better through mainstream marketing and efficient management. Students enrolled in many programs are required to choose a specialized area of focus, such as management, international business, finance or marketing.

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or high school diploma.

Coursework

It usually takes four years to complete this degree program. Coursework focuses on teaching students about business strategies in international marketing and the corporate environment. Internship opportunities are offered by some schools whereby students can experience real-world experience and are afforded the networking opportunities with potential employers. Core coursework may include topic areas such as:

•Finance accounting
•Research methods in business
•Business information systems
•Business statistics
•Microeconomics
•Economic principles

Career Choices

Those who successfully complete the program may seek entry-level careers with small or large corporations. They can work in various departments including finance, marketing, retail sales, and human resources, in positions such as:

•Benefits specialist
•Production manager
•Contract manager
•Sales manager
•Financial planner

Certification and Continuing Education Choices

Graduates pursuing enhanced career opportunities and higher level positions in management enroll in a master of business administration in various areas of specialization including International Business, Management, Marketing, and Finance. Graduates of BBA programs who aspire for careers in facility management, financial analysis or human resources (HR) can seek professional certification to boost their career opportunities. For instance, the Professional in Human Resources certification is offered by the HR Certification Institute for individuals with between one and four years of experience in HR; such certification would, however, depend on the degree level of the individual.
