Higher Education Articles March 13, 2013

Students who want to pursue careers in farming and related services can enroll in agriculture schools. The program may involve business and economics, dealing with animals or plant cultivation. There are several schools in the United States that offers agriculture programs.

How to Choose an Agriculture School?

The leading colleges or universities with agriculture programs are those that separate the subject into its own school, which is distant from the rest of the institution. This will enable students to have their own choice of specializations within agriculture, along with a variety of professors that students can learn from. Agriculture schools specialization includes agribusiness economics, agriculture education, agriscience technology, horticulture, agronomy and animal sciences, like veterinary technology and equine science.

Amongst these specializations, students will be able to select from a variety of classes. Agriculture schools should offer these key courses, including public policy, agriculture safety, animal anatomy, agricultural computer software, plant science, animal science and classes devoted to strict research in these areas. The colleges and universities need to offer agriculture-based student organizations. These may include an agribusiness club, horticulture club, equestrian team, and different leadership organizations for students of agriculture, like Sigma Alpha, Alpha Tau Alpha, and Alpha Gamma Rho.

Along with these classes and majors, the college or university should feature state-of-the-art facilities, including animal health facility, computer lab with business-standard software and hardware, a rodeo barn, and at least one farm center.
