Alameda, California is a seaside community that is located outside of San Francisco and Oakland. Students residing in Alameda have the options of either pursuing a bachelor or master degree program from numerous nearby publicly supported colleges and universities, such as Stanford University, City College of San Francisco, San Francisco State University, and University of California at Berkeley.

City College of San Francisco

Approximately one hundred career training certificate programs and over fifty associate degree programs are offered at this two-year college. City College of San Francisco began operations in 1935; the school currently has eleven campuses spread across the San Francisco metro area. Additionally, working students have several continuing education and distance-learning courses to select from.

San Francisco State University

San Francisco State University is part of the California State University educational system that offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs to a diverse student population. In 2009, U.S. News and World Report ranked the school among its list of fifteen best national universities for student diversity (source: www.usnews.com). The school offers over one hundred different undergraduate degree programs, and graduate degree programs are available in ninety-five areas of specialization through eight different colleges. University of California – Berkeley

This four-year public national research university, which is located seven miles outside of Alameda, California offers over 350 undergraduate and graduate degree programs through its fourteen schools and colleges. The University of California at Berkeley awards more doctoral degrees annually compared to any other universities around the United States with seven faculty members who are Nobel laureates. In 2008, the Association of Research Libraries ranked the University of California at Berkeley’s library as the best public research university library in the nation. The most popular area of concentration includes political science, cell and molecular biology, computer science, and electrical engineering.
