Mechanical engineering is commonly associated with engineering and automotive design. Several schools in the United States offer mechanical engineering degree programs that focus on automotive design and engineering. Clemson University – Clemson, South Carolina

Clemson University began operations in 1893, and until 1955 was a military college. In 2011, the U.S. News & World Report gave this school top ranking in the national universities category. There are eight schools and colleges comprising this university that accepts applications from students who want to pursue a bachelor, master, and doctoral degree. A Master of Science program and a Ph.D. in Automotive Engineering are offered by the university’s Department of Automotive Engineering; the college has a student chapter that is known as the Society of Automotive Engineers. Kettering University began operations in 1919. The university started due to the booming auto industry. The industry’s growth was driven by General Motors Corporation that owned Kettering Institute until thirty years ago. For the last eleven years, the university has never failed to appear at the top of the list of universities ranked by the News & World Report, and it was featured in the 2011 list of Best Colleges. Students can enroll for a bachelor and master degree program in engineering, science and business at Kettering University. The school’s Mechanical Engineering Department offers a Bachelor of Engineering in Automotive Engineering Design program as well as a Master of Science in Engineering-Automotive Systems. The automotive program at the school runs in close collaboration with the Society of Automotive Engineers.
