Northeast States that may Help Pay for your BSN and MSN

Several Northeast states pay BSN and MSN expenses for eligible award recipients. These awards are in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and loan repayment programs. Each program has different requirements and deadlines, but all of these programs can help you further your career in the field of nursing and make a difference for yourself and your community.

New Jersey and Pennsylvania

•The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association Promise of Nursing Regional Faculty Fellowship Program

•Kind of award: Scholarship

•This scholarship is offered to eligible applicants in multiple states, to include New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Applicants must be Registered Nurses who have completed a Bachelor’s Degree in a nursing discipline. Applicants must be working toward furthering their education and their career in the nursing field. Applicants should demonstrate financial need, academic excellence and a commitment to the field of nursing. Awards range from $1,000 to $7,500 and can be used for any education-related expenses to include tuition, books and other related fees. Application deadline: March 8

Delaware

Delaware Association of Nurse Anesthetists Edward Hyland CRNA Student Scholarship

•Kind of award: Scholarship

•This program is available to Delaware residents who are members of the Delaware Association of Nurse Anesthetists. Applicants must have completed at least one year of courses in an accredited CRNA program. Applicants must also have a primary clinical site at a hospital within the state of Delaware. Applicants for this scholarship must submit an application with an essay, and show strong involvement and commitment to their community and the nursing profession. Application deadline: April 1

New Jersey

Primary Care Loan Redemption Program of New Jersey

•Kind of award: Loan Repayment Program

•This program repays loans for residents of the State of New Jersey who are licensed to practice medicine or nursing within the state. Applicants must be Physicians, Dentists, Certified Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse Midwives, or Primary Care Physicians Assistants. Applicants must be recommended to participate in the program by the director of their education program and must submit recommendation letters with their application. This program provides up to four years of loan repayment benefits on a sliding scale for approved applicants. Application deadline: Applications accepted throughout the year.

Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses and Practitioners School Nurse Scholarship

•Kind of award: Scholarship

•This program benefits Registered Nurses who are enrolled in a program to become a certified school nurse. Applicants do not need to demonstrate financial need, but must have completed at least six credit hours of coursework and be in good academic standing with their college or university. The program awards three scholarships in the amount of $500 each year. These scholarships can be used for books, tuition, fees and related expenses, and are paid directly to the recipient. Application deadline: March 15

Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses and Practitioners Future Nurse Scholarship

•Kind of award: Scholarship

•This scholarship is offered to high school seniors who plan to pursue a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing. Students must demonstrate an intent of making a future career in the nursing field. Scholarships are awarded in the amount of $1,000 to be used for tuition, books and other related fees. Awards will be sent directly to the school of the student’s choice. Application deadline: May 1

There are also numerous financial aid programs available to nursing students and practitioners through the federal government. These scholarships, grants and loan repayment programs are offered throughout the year, with priority given to those who apply before March 1 each year. To be eligible, you must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, and this application can be easily completed online. The application takes less than an hour to complete, and you will have your free Student Aid Report within a week, which tells you what types of aid you are eligible for, and the amounts you qualify for.
