This article talks about schools that offer the best graduate degree programs in computer science and information about those schools.

Overview of Schools Offering Graduate Degree Programs in Computer Science

Students in graduate programs in computer science will learn about the practical uses and theoretical basis of information for computer systems. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge and Stanford University in California both offer high ranking graduate programs in computer science and various specialization areas at the master’s and doctoral levels.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge

The U.S. News & World Report ranked the graduate computer science program at MIT first on its 2010 list of best computer science graduate schools. The main campus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The school’s computer science programs are in MIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS).

The school offer many degree options, including the Master of Engineering (M.Eng.), Master of Science (M.S.), Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Other degree options feature Electrical Engineer and Engineer in Computer Science. Sixty-six credits are required by the Master of Science (M.S.), apart from a thesis; 162 credits and a thesis are required to earn the Electrical Engineer and Engineer in Computer Science degrees. Apart from completion of a thesis, and four terms in residency, a major program has to be finished to earn a doctorate. The school has about 700 enrollees in the doctoral program, thereby making the EECS the largest department in the School of Engineering.

Stanford University in California

The U.S. News & World Report ranked Stanford University in California first on its 2010 list of best computer science graduate programs. Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree programs are offered by Stanford’s School of Engineering through its computer science graduate department. The department, which was founded in 1965, focuses on research and education. At the school, there are many research groups with a focus on artificial intelligence and systems, scientific computing, and robotics. The program is mainly intended to train students for careers in the industrial world or teaching.
