Top Degree Program in CAD and Design Technology in Dallas, Texas

Mountain View Community College (MVCC) has one of the top CAD and Design Technology degree program around the Dallas, Texas area, and is part of the Dallas County Community College District. Students who are interested in computer-aided drafting and design, the college’s Business, Computer Science, and Mathematics Division offer various educational options, from an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree to certificates. Mountain View Community College

The college, which came into existence in 1970, carries accreditation by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Students enrolled at MVCC will have the opportunity to participate in cultural, athletic and religious clubs. During Spring 2011, the three divisions of MVCC had 8,718 student enrollments. These divisions included the Business, Computer Science and Mathematics Division, where the computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) programs are hosted. Eleven programs comprise the Business, Computer Science and Mathematics Division; they lead to either associate’s degrees or certificates upon completion. Degree Program: Computer-Aided Drafting and Design

A.A.S. in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design

This degree program can be completed by students within two years, if they are enrolled full-time. Enrolled students have to complete courses including an introduction to computer-aided drafting systems and creation and reading of blueprints. A term of hands-on drafting experience in a cooperative education environment is also required to be completed by students enrolled in the program. Elective courses include instruction about various forms of drafting, including topographical, mechanical and electrical. During the last semester, students are required to complete a comprehensive project. This degree program requires sixty-two to seventy-two credit-hours of study and has general educational courses in communications, mathematics and psychology.

Certificate in Computer-Aided Design Architectural Drafting

Those interested in specializing in architectural drafting and design can enroll in this CADD certificate program that covers courses focusing on the study of materials used in architecture and the drafting of residential and commercial buildings, in addition to two electives chosen from a list of electives. These include parametric modeling, blueprint sketching and mechanical drafting. Completion of this certificate program will take only two semesters.

Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing-Computer Numeric-Controls Certificate

Students enrolled in this program are taught machine shop operations and the creation of blueprints. In this program that takes two semesters to complete, basic and advanced techniques related to computer-aided manufacturing and computer-aided design are taught to students. Students are also expected to complete a math course concentrating on math or algebra for machine shops.

Certificate in Computer-Aided Design Advanced Operator

Students are required to complete thirty-five credit hours of study to earn this certificate. Students will be taught a wide array of skills including advanced computer-aided manufacturing, introductory computer-aided drafting, advanced machining techniques and machine shop techniques. Once they have completed the program, students can seek entry level occupations that involve the operation of machinery.

Certificate in Computer-Aided Design Operator

In addition to basic computer-aided drafting, architectural illustration and technical drafting, 2-D and 3-D drawings are also taught to students enrolled in this program. Students are required to choose two electives from a list that includes courses such as solid modeling, 3-D animation, and parametric modeling and design. It takes twenty to twenty-three credit hours to complete this program.
