Associate of Arts (A.A.) Degree in Fashion Marketing

Students who are enrolled in an associate degree program in fashion marketing learn about the design, marketing and merchandising of designer apparel, as well as earn an Associate of Arts degree. Students will be exposed to several fashion fundamentals, including e-commerce, color theory, and textiles.

A.A. Degree in Fashion Marketing

Associate degree programs in fashion marketing offer comprehensive training in business strategies, advertising, promotion, retailing, and marketing. Students are trained to apply the fundamentals of publishing, public relations, brand management, and product development to the fashion industry.

Students might also learn the principles of design such as knitted and woven fabric structure, yarns, and fiber characteristics, in addition to marketing basics. Aspiring students will be required to hold a minimum of a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma. Students may be required to complete a college entrance examination, if they have not taken the SAT or ACT tests.

Program Coursework

Along with standard educational requirements in core areas, such as humanities, social science, and mathematics; students will be encouraged to interview with school officials. Popular program course topics may include the following:

•Principles of marketing

Career Options

Students who have graduated from an associate degree program in fashion marketing will gain essential marketing, communication, design, computer, and research skills for employment in various entry-level professions, such as:

•Visual merchandiser
•Merchandise coordinator

Continuing Education Information

Although promotion to most retail management positions depends on the quality and length of an individual’s work experience; if an individual is considered, he or she will be required by the company to undergo management training programs that comprise both on-the-job and classroom instruction.

Candidates who plan to pursue non-retail managerial careers in promotions and fashion marketing will benefit from earning an undergraduate degree in marketing or other related fields. Students who are in the bachelor degree programs are expected to take similar, but more comprehensive courses compared to those who are enrolled in the associate degree programs. Individuals will also benefit from seasonal internships, along with a bachelor degree.
