Associate of Arts (A.A.) in Business Degree

Individuals who are eager to advance or start their careers in the business field should consider earning an Associate of Arts in Business degree. Those who have earned their A.A. in Business degree may obtain jobs as cost estimators, community service managers, or sales managers.

A.A. in Business Degree

Students will gain basic foundational knowledge in the business field through the associate degree program in business. Students can participate in coursework that covers areas of social science, practical business information, and core content areas, such as arts, sciences, and humanities. An associate degree program can take approximately two years to complete, if students are enrolled full-time.

Education Requirements

Students who want to enroll in a business associate degree program should submit their general educational development (GED) scores or high school transcripts. Depending on the program, some will require students to have prior full-time work experience in the business field.

Program Coursework

Students who are interested in earning an associate degree in business are required to take courses that cover basic educational requirements, provide fundamental information, and instill effective work ethics. An Associate of Arts in Business degree may give students a solid foundation on the basics of business. Students who are enrolled in a business program will acquire skills and learn business theories required in computer technology, marketing, management, and human relations. Earning an A.A. in Business degree will provide opportunities to graduates to look for employment in different business fields such as banking, finance, and accounting. As of May 2010, cost estimators earned an average annual salary of $57,860, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS – www.bls.gov). During the same year, administrative service managers earned an average annual salary of $77,890, as reported by the BLS. Individuals who hold an Associate of Arts in Business degree can choose to work in positions such as:

•Community service managers
•Cost estimators
•Administrative service managers
•Sales manager

Information on Continuing Education

The first academic step in the business field is the associate degree program. Associate degree program graduates will find that their standard business and education courses can be easily transferred to a four-year bachelor degree program. Beyond the bachelor degree level, master and doctoral degree programs are available in business, each of which can offer various areas of concentration in the field.
