Associate of Business Science (A.B.S.) Degree in Automated Accounting

Majors Overview May 21, 2013

In this article, students will discover research options to study automated accounting. Currently, there isn’t any associate degree programs for it, but we will give students an overview of careers, courses, and certificate programs, so they can make an informed decision about their education.

Certificate Program in Automated Accounting

Students enrolled in an Automated Accounting Certificate Program are trained adequately to carry out a range of professional accounting skills; they learn how to prepare income taxes, summarize financial transactions, prepare financial statements and maintain computerized payrolls. They also acquire knowledge of key accounting basics including federal tax codes, bank reconciliations and the accounting cycle.

Individuals are also required to learn how to use accounting software such as Quickbooks, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel. They will also become adept at using other tools such as project management, document management, and financial software and calculators for compliance.

Education Requirements

Admission criteria typically require applicants to be at least 18 years old and hold a general educational development (GED) certificate or a high school diploma. With much of the coursework computer-oriented, aspiring candidates seeking admission to the program would do well if they take high school courses in basic computer literacy.

Program Coursework

The automated accounting curriculum is composed of both practical and theoretical, skill-based instruction. The majority of courses takes place in a computer lab environment and concentrates on the computerized aspects of accounting. Students may be required to take the following course topics:

•Spreadsheet applications
•Database applications
•Microsoft office software
•Accounting software
•Payroll accounting
•Business accounting

Career Options

Students who have earned their certificate will be able to find entry-level and mid-level employment in different diverse fields and accounting specialties, including computerized accounting, payroll, general ledger, bookkeeping, and accounts receivable. Certificate program graduates may obtain the following job titles:

•Accounting technician
•Auditing clerk
•Accounting clerk

Continuing Education Information

After successful completion of the program, students may seek continuing education in a more general nature by enrolling in an associate degree or bachelor degree program. This could be mandatory for students who want to pursue careers in the advanced accounting field.
