Degree Overview: Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree in Visual Communications
Majors Overview March 31, 2014Students will be prepared for work involving computer imaging, video production, and digital media, if they choose to participate in the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree program in Visual Communications. They will be taught how to assess the needs of clients for the purpose of conveying messages to consumers effectively through animations, graphics, and art.
A.A.S. Programs in Visual Communications
Students enrolled in Visual Communications associate’s degree programs are offered hands-on training in graphic design, photography, 3-D animation, interactive media, imaging and video production. The program facilitates commercial application of students’ artistic talents through the creation of art employed in brochures, logos, sales displays, websites and advertising. The program facilitates the exploration of layout development methods, leading to the creation of visually appealing products that optimize information clarity.
Apart from rudimentary computer experience, admission criteria typically include a GED certificate or high school diploma.
Coursework
It takes about two years to complete a Visual Communications degree program including 60-70 semester hours of classes. Specializations are offered in some programs – these include web design, multimedia, 3-D animation and graphic design. Students enrolled in some programs may be expected to develop portfolios that they can use to demonstrate their knowledge and skills to potential recruiters.
