Those interested in utilizing their accounting, management, and marketing skills in the industry of sports should look into Associate of Science (A.S.) degree programs in Business Administration concentrating on sports management; Associate of Business Science (A.B.S.) degree programs in Sports Management are not usually offered. Students will explore the particular needs of sports franchises in regards to media attention, team travel, business ethics, and hosting events.

Associate of Science (A.S.) Degree Programs in Business Administration Concentrating on Sports Management

Students enrolled in a sports management associate degree program are trained in the use of business skills in a sports setting, such as government-sponsored recreation facilities, youth sports, professional sport organizations, retail equipment sales, and amateur teams. Students learn how to manage sports events, develop budget strategies, and market and initiate promotional campaigns. Coursework also includes principles of ethics in business and issues in media sports coverage.

Education Requirements

Admission criteria typically require applicants to hold a GED certificate or high school diploma. Students enrolled in some schools are required to complete designated courses in math and English before they can enroll in the program. Prospective students are allowed to take some college-level courses in lieu.

Coursework

It takes 60 to 66 semester credits to complete a sports management degree program over a two-year period. Internships are included in the coursework, which are offered by some schools, whereby students get a chance to network in order to boost future employment opportunities while gaining real-world experience.

Students are required to complete general education classes in liberal arts subject areas such as the social sciences, history, science, math, and English. Coursework may include the following topic areas:
