An Associate of Science (A.S.) degree program in network engineering technology will teach students how to maintain network software and hardware, monitor computer networks, and analyze problems.

A.S. Programs in Network Engineering Technology

Students enrolled in a network engineer technology associate degree program are trained to seek entry-level jobs in various technology fields including information technology (IT). Customized versions of engineering technology programs are offered by some schools, including communications engineering technology, with networking as a major option. Coursework in such programs is a combination of courses from the computing and electronics fields and schools may offer it in a variety of associate’s degree options wherein a broader field of study is offered to students.

Students are also imparted the practical education they need in order to qualify for continued education, career advancement and professional certifications. Students enrolled in these two-year programs are taught how to create, install and maintain computer networks. Admission criteria typically require applicants to hold a GED certificate or high school diploma.

Coursework is a combination of classroom lectures and lab instruction aimed at imparting hands-on experience augmented with co-op work experiences and typically includes topic areas such as:

Graduates can opt to join the workforce immediately on completing the associate’s degree program or pursue continued education by enrolling in bachelor’s programs in information systems or computer science and seek entry-level positions as network analysts or network engineers. They can also obtain professional certification to boost their employability and demonstrate their skills and knowledge in the field to potential job givers. Computer and software product vendors offer such certification which can also be sought through training institutions.
