Degree Overview: Associate of Science (A.S.) Degree in Network Technology

Programs in this field will train students in subjects such as data communications, client/server systems, and network administration. Graduates can continue their education or move onto entry-level networking technology work.

A.S. Programs in Network Technology

Students enrolled in the Associate of Science (A.S.) in Network Technology program are imparted the skills they need in troubleshooting and repairing computer systems and for the design, installation and maintenance of LANs (local area networks). Completion of these 2-year programs will allow students to be able to seek entry-level jobs in networking technology while also serving to prepare them to sit industry certification exams.

Completion of an A.S. degree program will allow an individual to join the workforce immediately after he graduates; alternately the student may seek to transfer to a 4-year bachelor’s degree program. Admission criteria typically require applicants to hold a GED certificate or high school diploma.

Students can expect to become knowledgeable about network technology by completing a combination of classroom coursework, hands-on lab instruction and cooperative work experience in the industry. Coursework typically includes topic areas such as:
