Students in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (B.S.B.A.) degree programs in IT (Information Technology) will be prepared to oversee data storage and information transmission across and within networks. They will also learn the technical skills and business concepts needed to work as IT specialists.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (B.S.B.A.) Degree Programs in Information Technology

Students enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (B.S.B.A.) degree program in Information Technology are exposed to a broad-based education in conventional business ideas while being provided specialized classes in subject areas with direct relation to information technology.

Information technology includes the storage and analysis of information, in addition to the speedy transmission of information. Students are taught important technical skills in the constantly changing aspects of Web development, information security, and system design.

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or high school diploma.

Coursework

Coursework includes courses in mathematics (usually calculus) and business statistics, in addition to an array of introductory business classes in marketing, economics, accounting, and finance. Technical, survey, and foundation classes are combined in elective business and IT coursework, devised to build skills in analysis, problem-solving, and communication. Additional coursework in IT may include topic areas such as:

•Systems analysis and/or systems design
•Enterprise business systems
•Database management
•Management

Career Choices

Graduates can seek jobs as IT generalists or opt for specialization in a specific area of IT, such as Web development, databases, or data security. Most industries, including consulting, government, and finance organizations, hire these professionals. The following are popular job positions, along with their average annual wages (BLS):

Network/computer systems administrator – $72,560
Database administrator – $77,080
Computer systems analyst – $79,680

Information technology is an ever-changing field wherein candidates would need on-the-job training and work experience to develop the necessary and wide-ranging IT skill sets. IT professionals would also benefit by obtaining certifications that would serve to showcase their knowledge and skills in the field to potential employers. Product vendors, institutes, and professional organizations offer certifications. Students that successfully complete a B.S.B.A. in IT are prepared for a master’s degree in information systems management, among other graduate-level degrees.
