Bachelor of Science in Technology Management (B.S.T.M.) Degree Programs in Computer Information Systems

Students enrolled in four-year Bachelor of Science in Technology Management (B.S.T.M.) in Computer Information Systems programs are introduced to the skills and tools they would need to develop project plans, build cross-functional schedules, control project costs, and deploy resources apart from providing overall leadership in technology-focused projects.

Students are typically expected to complete senior projects or internships, thereby providing themselves with an opportunity to concentrate intensively on an area of specialization. Concepts in networking, database systems, computer programming, and technology fundamentals are covered in the program.

Education Requirements

Admission criteria typically require incoming students to hold a GED certificate or high school diploma; transfer students meeting program-specific course and unit requirements are also admitted through Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degrees in technology-related fields that these students can use as completion programs.

Coursework

Coursework in technology management programs covers technology and core business classes, development of IT project management skills, and classes focused on computer information systems. Business coursework covers science, advanced math, statistics, and business communications. Core technology coursework covers security foundations and systems. Job and Wage Outlook

A 15% job growth rate has been predicted for computer and information systems managers over the 2012 – 2022 decade (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). In May 2012, these professionals took home an average annual wage of $120,950 (BLS).

Continuing Education Choices

Graduates of the bachelor’s degree program may seek continued education by earning a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) or Master of Science (M.S.) in technology related fields, thereby increasing their chances of finding occupations in entrepreneurial consulting roles or higher levels of management.
